The sacrament of Reconciliation (also known as Penance or Confession) is a way for us to reconcile ourselves to God. Sin deprives us of God’s grace and leads us into a sinful way of life. In the celebration of the sacrament, we find God’s unconditional forgiveness. In being forgiven, we are restored in grace and our conversion enables us to one again resist sin. As a result we are called to forgive others. There are three options for obtaining this sacrament at Our Lady of the Gulf
According to the general guidelines of the Archdiocese of Mobile, a student must attend at least two academic years of religious education before receiving the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. First Reconciliation and First Communion are traditionally celebrated in grade 2. Preparation for these sacraments is integrated into the curriculum for grades 1 and 2.
Parents seeking First Reconciliation for their child(ren) should contact Parish Catechetical Leader (PCL) Suzette Taylor for details of the process. Children must be enrolled in the Catholic Religious Education classes here at Our Lady of the Gulf.
Older children and adolescents wishing to receive the sacrament of First Reconciliation should contact Suzette Taylor for further information about this process.
